Maria Emília Silvestre (1932-2016)
In my function as President of the Portuguese Society of Radiology it is my duty to inform that Dr Maria Emilia Silvestre, former ECR 1987 President, has passed away on last Saturday, the 18th June 2016.
Dr Silvestre served the Portuguese Society of Radiology for many years in her function of President or member of the Board from 1983 until 1991. She was instrumental for the Portuguese Radiology especially in the field of oncologic radiotherapy and breast cancer screening. In 1987 she acted as President of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR 1987) that took place in Lisbon and is remembered as a recognised sucess. Dr Silvestre served the European Society in many functions and was also responsible for the European Diploma of Clinical Sonography from 1989 to 1992.
For her many roles and commitment with the European Radiology she was appointed honorary member of ESR and RSNA in 1991.
After a prolonged disease period Dr Silvestre passed away on the 18th June 2016, at the age of 84.
