The acute scrotum – imaging techniques
• US - the workhorse
– Doppler is an integral part of the
US examination;
– In no situation more than this, data
provided by Doppler are of outmost
clinical importance
• MRI and CT - for a few special indications
– if US findings are inconclusive
– MRI: when intratesticular hematoma or infarction are suspected
(but maybe CEUS can be indicated for infarctions)
– CT: when scrotal gas is suspected
