ADVANCED MR TECHNIQUES IN THE RADIOTHERAPY PLANNING FOR GLIOBLASTOMA
NEIL BURNET

In the talk I will discuss newer MRI techniques which appear to image tumour infiltration beyond the conventional edge of gross tumour. This infiltration therefore extends into the zone we consider as the Clinical target Volume (CTV). This may present some difficulties in definition and terminology as such techniques develop. Such infiltration tends to vary around the tumour, especially since GBM tends to migrate along white matter tracts. Therefore, some attempt at individualisation of the CTV may be possible. In so doing, the volume designed to receive irradiation might be reduced, at least in some cases. Using current conventional models of normal tissue damage and toxicity, a smaller volume treated would allow a higher dose to be given, for the same level of risk of damage.
