Brief History and Evolution of the Different Techniques
Prostate brachytherapy is gaining renewed interest as a treatment option for localized prostate cancer. The increased interest has resulted from recently reported success of transperineal ultrasound guided seed implant. The new implant techniques differ markedly from the procedures performed prior to the advent of transrectal ultrasound. In principle, the newer technique is not so different from the original reports on prostate brachytherapy dating back to the turn of the century.
