The idiopathic interstitial pneumonias are a group of disorders that are originally described by Dr. Averill Liebow in the mid 1970’s. These interstitial pneumonias have undergone a revision of classification and include the following entities: 1. Usual interstitial pneumonia (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) 2. Respiratory bronchiolitis – associated interstitial lung disease 3. Desquamative interstitial pneumonitis 4. Acute interstitial pneumonitis (Hamman Rich) 5. Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (BOOP) 6.
